Job title: Stream Restoration Engineer or Scientist

Job summary: We are seeking a new Stream Restoration Engineer or Scientist to help with restoration projects throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. The successful candidate will assist with assessment and design of dam removal, stream re-meandering, floodplain reconnection, aquatic habitat enhancement, streambank stabilization, and other related restoration projects.

As a Stream Restoration Engineer/Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work exclusively on stream restoration projects. This will include converting urban streams from neglected drains to beautiful community assets, improving habitats for rare and cold-water aquatic species, and reducing pollution to waterways by stabilizing streambanks and reconnecting floodplains. This work will integrate the latest science and provide opportunities to innovate methods for stream restoration. Our new engineer/scientist will be an integral part of our team, with the potential to grow with the firm while assuming increased responsibility.

Responsibilities:

·        Help conduct field assessments to diagnose physical and biological impairments to river systems.

·        Process field and desktop data to document stream conditions and provide the basis for designs.

·        Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models.

·        Create design drawings, reports, and specifications for construction projects.

·        Provide on-site construction observation and field engineering.

Qualifications:

Required:

·     Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or aquatic ecology.

·     Interest in the restoration of natural resources.

·     Ability to travel up to 30% of the time. Must be able to travel to project sites overnight for up to 5 days at a time.

·     Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel (mileage reimbursement provided).

Preferred:

·        Experience with topographic and bathymetric surveying

·        Proficient with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP)

·        Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS software

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills

·        Master’s degree in water resources engineering, limnology, fisheries, or related field.

·        2+ years of related work experience

Fish Creek Restoration LLC was started in 2019 to focus on providing stream restoration expertise to clients throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. Our regional focus has led to in-depth knowledge of the complex stream processes and the regulatory environment in the localities in which we work. This concentration leads to effective and efficient projects. Clients of ours include government agencies, municipalities, Native American tribes, non-profits, and private landowners. We have experienced significant growth since we were founded.

Location and Work Environment:

This will be a remote position unless the employee is located in Madison and desires to join an office environment.

Salary and Benefits:

The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include 3 weeks paid vacation per year, flexible work schedules, 401k package, and bonus structure.
